The Right Place

I recently finished animating a short to a great song called "Right Place Wrong Time" by Dr. John. You can watch it on Vimeo or on www.gallanimation.com (courtesy of my friend Hitzel who helped make that work).

Something Else

Last Summer I got to animate a few sequences on a music video by Director Justin Nieuwland. The song is "Hey Bully" by Montreal based acoustic string band Lake of Stew.
Justin went for a 1930's rubber hose look, which was great fun to draw. Click right here to check out the finished product along with a full credit list.

The Invention of Littering

The GreenSpace game's private testing period is over. It goes public today. apps.facebook.com/green-space

Here's a bit of animation I did for the introductory cinematic.
You can see the whole thing (with lots more animation, effects and background art by Brad Cayford and Leisl Adams as well as sounds by Jasper Gahunia) by signing up for the game or checking out RocketOwl's youtube page.

GreenSpaceTM: Locomotion

Here's a demo of the base male and female characters from GreenSpaceTM. They inhabit a massive environment within the game (See Brad Cayford's sweet background art below) so we needed ways of getting them around quickly so that players don't get bored during the commute. Short distances=Walk. A little farther=Hover. Across the board=Teleport. (Be sure to fullscreen it in HD).Up next: FUNNY LOOKING OUTFITS!

OIAF 2010

A bit of animation I did for the Ottawa International Animation Festival sponsorship reel, which took place this past week. (Nice and clear if you "full screen" it).

My buddy Chris Dainty designed the character, built the little hat out of clay and had his adorable niece do the voice.

Happy Easter!

A continuation of the "adorable little bunny rabbit" theme followed up by the traditional "Baby Easter Lion from Hell".

The Good Little Bunny with the BIG BAD TEETH

This is part of a sequence I animated for my friend Jessica's upcoming cartoon. I took out the entire middle section because EACH AND EVERY FRAME is TOTALLY CRAM-PACKED with SURPRISE and EXCITEMENT. You can check out lots of her amazing production art here. It's going to be a good one!

Miss February

I spent the month of February animating this character, first as part of a Valentine's Day card and then to a musical clip from the 11 Second Club animation competition. Once I finished the card I pulled a bunch of poses from it to create a model sheet.
The following cycle was the most fun bit to animate, although at 1.5 seconds worth of screen time I'm afraid it was a little under used.

Good times, but it has been nice to move on to new characters. More to come real soon.

11 Second Club, February 2010

My entry into the Feb. 2010 11 Second Club Animation Competition. I was able to reuse a character from a Valentine's Day themed animation I had done earlier in the month. When I submitted this it was entitled "The Missing Inbetween Shuffle", but I went back and added the extra drawings after the fact.

Juicy Cool Posing

Here are the Juicy Cool thumbnail poses I worked out on paper before animating.
And some Flash clean up samples we used for client approval.

Juicy Cool

Our first commercial.

Lauren and I made this last Spring with the help of our friends Alistair, who composited and Felicia, who photographed the product. We had a good client, he gave us the jingle and a character and let us take it from there. Check out a bigger version on vimeo or double click for a (slightly pixelated) full screen view.

Vday 2010

This is some animation I did for a Valentine's day e-card. Below it is an earlier version with just the keys. My pal Jack Ront helped me make this thing work. You can see the real deal at www.gallanimation.com

The Martyr

This is a rough animation sequence from a short I've been working on called "The Martyr". This kid likes to bother pigeons. What he doesn't know is that one of them is rigged to explode.
